Two women were arrested today on charges of promoting prostitution after an undercover operation at a massage parlor in Athens.
Yu Guiying, 61, and Qingying Zhang, 54, both from China and living in Athens, are held in the Limestone County jail. Bail hasn’t yet been set.
Several citizens gave information indicating Asian Massage, a massage parlor on U.S. 72, wasn’t a legitimate massage business, said Stephen Young, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office.
After going undercover, investigators got a search warrant and seized equipment, furniture and about $10,400 cash, Young said in a press release.
“The investigation remains open, and additional charges are possible,” he said.
If convicted of second-degree promoting prostitution, a Class C felony, the women could face up to 10 years in prison.
