Opinion Why do MPA's expect 10$ or more for tip for basic massage with no HE?

I don't understand this reasoning so I went to Oceanic palace recently for just a massage and no HE. At the end of the session when I got dressed to pay and leave the MPA expected at least 10$ in tip from me. I paid 5$ because she provided a mediocore massage and service and she sweared at me in Mandarin. I don't understand this reasoning why do most MPA's expect any tip or minimum 10$ tip for most massage? I am not even a regular at this place and even if I was a regular I wouldn't pay 10$ extra for basic massage. I don't understand why the business owners just don't pay these MPA more?. They expect the customer to give them extra in tip money. I know many people will call me cheap here and what not but the truth is I am not rich like many of you and don't have extra money that I don't need to handout. I prioritize how much I spend on regular massages vs other services that provided to me at spas. Fuck them if they don't accept my 5$ tip...

Sorry, not trying to be rude and obviously you can do what you want but even $10 is considered cheap for just a basic massage without HE and $5 would be like an insult to them. I know it doesn't sound fair to you but look at it this way, you just took an hour of her time that she could have serviced another customer (or two) and made a lot more money. So although you are entitled to give what you feel is fair, don't expect them to welcome you with open arms next time...

Since you said you are 'not rich', my advice would be to stick with places that don't offer HE...there are many places like this, for example CBQ.

I’ll contribute my $0.02 from 20 years of experience attending both legit and “semi-legit” providers. It is not uncommon that the attendants are expecting a tip at that end of a massage, personally I only do 60 and 90 minute sessions and tip $$20 and $30 respectively. I do not have insurance so I pay cash so each time will cost me $80 to $110 dollars. Yes I can add up especially if you do this weekly. I don’t drink, smoke, or do drugs so this is how I justify my spending. Most attendants do not get paid unless they have clients so they can sit there for 10 to 12 hours and if they do 4 massages a day might earn $120 (maybe). After a few (maybe 100) massages and trying different locations, I have narrowed it down to 4 or 5 that know how to work my muscles and are worth repeating.
It takes a lot of time and money to find the right balance in what you need to look after your body, which is the purpose of a massage isn’t it? Keep looking, sounds like this attendant isn’t for you.

I didn't go for HE and if I was going for HE I would tip the 40$. I just went for just a massage and nothing else and the MPA expected 10$ at least in tip. Listen it's not my fault the business owners at these Asian spas are really cheap and don't pay their MPA well and expect tip from me.

… Dude came into spa while me= on table… I could here yelling f/ inside the rm… spa mgr chased him out, said yer late, u lost aptmnt… he was like 30 sec late… … but turns out, he didnt give $10 tip last time…

Even mgr hated him 4 that!

…in rm, she finished me w HE & I could feel her up pretty much wherever… 50 tip… & Im thinkng, geez, lotsa guys here dunno so much fun 2b had… if he just gave normal tip, he mighta found out even more= available….

I think Kl_Funguy rightfully explained everything to you. He is one of the gurus in this forum. My advice to you: if you are so poor that can not afford $10 tip, do not go SPA. It is very simple. If you review postings from this forum you know that visiting SPAs is not a cheap business.
Just for your information: girls (MPAs) are making living from customers' tip. No money!, No Honey!

I suggest finding a spa that has a lot of female clients. I've been told by mpas that women clients tend to be very cheap with tips. $5 - $10 tips are common by them at certain spas.

Hey, you posted asking for opinions but it doesn’t seem like you want to hear the truth. Like I said, if all you want is a massage, then go to a place that doesn’t offer HE. Otherwise, right or wrong, you will continue to get bad service ‘most’ of time…

If you develop a reputation of being a bad, or cheap, client you’ll keep getting shitty service until they make it so you don’t want to come back.

Some of these questions are getting stupid.
1) massage is hard work try giving one and time youself
2) tips is they live off of, 30min straight for 5 bucks or 60 for 30 bucks. That is the going rate for room rate cut. Although many boss now give NOTHING for under 30Min.
3) if they can avoid touching you more than they have too, that is what they would prefer.

My advise to OP is if you are looking just for a good massage, pls go to legit places like CBQ or Kelly where no HE is offered or places like where most customers are women. The ladies at those spas are used to $5 -$10 tips.
If you like going to semi legit places with decent looking younger girls , be ready to tip $20 and up. Otherwise they will see you as a cheap guy just wasted their time. Most spas give only $10 to the girls out of half hr session and they are counting on good tips. Pls don't forget the masseuse stays with you and take care of you the whole half hr. Not like waiters at restaurants who just throw the dish at you and walk away.
Just have a look at yourself now how shitty you are feelling bcuz of that nasty look from the lady. You won't get poorer by giving her extra $5 tip but that coulld have made both of you a bit happier. Now you are not happy and so was she.

When u go 4 legit msg, that $10 tip (I usually do $20) = already spent... don't think of it as optional.

how about include the tips in the room fee ($50). I can understand why some people think $10 tips if ridiculous. That is 25 % tips based on the assumption you pay $40 for the room fee.

At the same time, the attendant shouldn't be bitching at you for small tips. That is absolutely unacceptable and make the company looks bad. if they attendants don't like the compensation structure, they can work for others or look for other jobs.

I have been working in the customer field for over 12 years now. I did some of that in restaurants. I am grateful whatever the tips the customers give.
