Stupid, stupid question

Sorry guys but a friend brought this up when I told her I was considering massage.

Does the therapist name effect buisness? She said becasue I have a german name that I may have a better time getting clients becasue of the sterotype of male therapist being from europe?

I know it's stupid, but now that I thought about it, most male therapist you see in the movies/ tv are named sven or something.

no it's not a stupid stupid question. It's been said elsewhere for female therapists with exotic names preferred by dubsious web sites that they're best not to promote their business as "massages by Sabrina" or "touch of Brandie", something like "massages by Jane" just seems so much less likely to be someone providing extras. Names can have an impact on the kind of business you attract.

A European male name could make you seem more qualified in some people's eyes, though some might also take it to mean extras from a male - it's those exotic names used elsewhere. So promoting your name may help, but I think it may also bring you more dubious phone calls than you're anticipating. Dubious phone calls are pretty easy to deal with after some practice, but the first few you just won't believe it, the next few you'll think "did he mean what I think he means or am I overly paranoid?" and eventually you'll be "here we go again, boring. No, wrong place".

Don't worry about your name as much as your abilities to provide excellent care for those you will eventually work with. Ability to do the work well, and professionally outweighs much in the minds of clients. AND, should you decide to have a private practice, you could always give it a name that reflects the work that you provide for clients rather than your actual name.
