Studios: what about a guide for newbie?

I have never been to a studio (OK don't make fun of me please! ), who is an experienced studio customer could write a few lines to give newbie like me some guidance.
Do you need to schedule an appointment?
Do they screen customers? If so,how?
Do you tip girls over the "fixed rate"?

I'd like to put together a guide similar to that someone wrote for AMPs.

Just read the reviews in this section. They vary a lot. SCS is popular, and sort of GFE;
You don;t have to tip over the amount. Some you tip; massage studios are different than SCS and you negotiate the rate with the masseuse depending on what you want.
It is always better to have an appointment; With SCS you are screened before you are
given the directions.
