The Valentine’s week came with a surprise. My better half signed me up for a signature spa massage with Colaba-based Pappion Salon. All I had to do was book an appointment to get pampered. During my two year stay in Kerala, I have experienced the traditional Kerala or Ayurveda massage and honestly I did not like it much. It was like dipping yourself in oil which would take hours of bathing to be removed.
The technique did leave me with a body ache most of the time. After that, I have tried the Aromatherapy massage a while back and now it was time for the signature massage. The curious me had a lot of questions regarding what the massage was all about and Deepak who manages the salon ensured I have all the knowledge I required. Basically, the signature massage at Pappion Colaba is a combination of Swedish, Deep tissue and Aromatherapy massages. I was already excited.
The experience
I met my massage therapist Nisha and proceeded to the room which was prepared for my session. The soothing aroma of lemongrass, soft music and dim lighting was the perfect ambience for a relaxing massage. I was given disposable undergarments and my body was then covered with a towel. Only the part that had to be massaged was uncovered which made me comfortable. She wiped my feet clean with a hot towel and then began the dry massage which is a sort of warm up before the main session. It started with the back and ended with a head massage.
The technique
The Deep Tissue massage is similar to the Swedish massage but the therapist uses her forearm in a kneading action to apply pressure during it. The focus is on relieving stress and relaxing the tense body parts. According to Nisha, I had a lot of knots in my right shoulder and she ensured that she released all of them with the right technique. The deep tissue massage aimed at eliminating all the stiffness from the body. There was also a series of yoga-inspired stretches to relieve all the tension from the joints and muscles and stimulate blood circulation. These stretches are known to improve energy levels too. She used aroma oil from Raaga and they did not have specific essential oils which a client can choose. I would prefer it that way. But Nisha did tell me that the client can bring their oils if their skin is sensitive to any particular brand. The pressure was just perfect. I did not have to tell her to increase or reduce it at any point of time and she worked on every part with such perfection.
Feedback
There was no unnecessary chatting which helps you concentrate on the massage and even enjoy the pampering. At the end of the session, the first line I said was “God bless you”. She had put in a good 75 minutes of effort in helping me relax and release the tension from my body. There was a major difference as I was feeling light, fresh and rejuvenated in the real sense.
The Signature massage at Pappion Colaba costs you Rs3000 while individually the Swedish massage and Aromatherapy cost Rs2500 each and Deep tissue costs Rs3000. It is definitely worth the cost considering the efforts of the massage therapist and its effects on your body. I am still feeling light and my body aches have vanished even after 3 days of massage. So go ahead and pamper yourself this Valentine’s Day with a signature massage at Pappion.
