NAUGATUCK — Two New Yorkers have been charged in connection with a prostitution investigation at a local massage parlor, police said Friday.
Xiaopei Zhang and Jianwei Lu, both of Queens, N.Y., were taken into custody on Monday.
Zhang, 46, was charged with conspiracy to commit prostitution, prostitution, second-degree promoting prostitution and permitting prostitution.
Lu, 50, was charged with second-degree promoting prostitution and permitting prostitution.
They were each held on $10,000 bonds and told to appear in court on June 2.
Naugatuck police said the Detective Bureau served a search-and-seizure warrant at Maple Massage at 1177 New Haven Road after a “lengthy prostitution investigation,” leading to the arrest of Zhang and Lu. Police did not provide any additional information on the investigation.
This isn’t the first time this massage parlor has been the target of a police investigation.
On Oct. 23, 2019, detectives served a search-and-seizure warrant at Maple Massage. Police said in 2019 that the investigation was launched after the department learned patrons were paying employees cash in exchange for sexual acts.
Three women were arrested in 2019. Their cases are not pending and no convictions could be found under their names on the state’s judicial website.
