I'm guessing it's a warning to anyone who hasn't been to SJ much, and isn't aware of the potential ripoffs at the "American" style strip joints. I met a couple of newbies and a vet who wanted to go to a strip club just to see. Now if those newbies went by themselves to the wrong club ......

Simple- we probably wouldn't but Tango India is just a high priced place, I've seen full page ads in magazines, looks to be a very classy place and presume they cater to the Gringos (business travelers?) that don't know about or want to venture downtown...

Outstanding reporting.

The Nightclub listing should be broken down into at least two categories. The "Tourist" clubs and the "Locals" clubs.

Under "Tourist" I would list Josephine's, Elite, Pure Platinum, Lipstick, Tango India, Pink Panther and I think Hollywood although I've never been there.

The more "Local" types would be Le Grillon, Casablanca, D'Pelufo's, Babes and Molino Rojo.

As to the question of why anyone would go to the more expensive clubs I'll add these thoughts. I've been to Josephine's, Lipstick, Elite. These aren't clubs you want to visit if "on a budget".

All three are nice clubs with Josephine's and Elite larger and more upscale than Lipstick.

The girls at Josephine's and Lipstick were a mix with some good and some very good. Elite was a cut above the other two.

The prices are too high for Costa Rica (might as well be in Las Vegas, NYC, Atlanta or Miami) but if you want to feel like a high-roller and spend some time being seduced in a nice club these will fit the bill. Think of the best U.S. clubs you've been in then add in the fact that almost anything goes (for a price) and you've got an idea what to expect in these clubs.

For the money Le Grillon, or as a step down Casablanca, are better values.

Soon as my girlfriend goes back to the US I'll update this list with some more recent info....

As far as Tango India goes, it is a whole different atmosphere. I've taken women there many times because it's a very nice, comfortable place. There is also the single best selection of beautiful women that I have found so far in Costa Rica. Now, I'm not saying quanity, since the Beatle and BM beat it there(although it's close sometimes), but it's hands down been the best assortment of 8 to 10s in the country.

Prices ? high. Quality ? very high. Selection ? perfect.

I totally agree with Le Grillon. Nice place, good atmosphere. I also tend to hang out far too much at D'Pelufo which has some beauties as well. But you can't really get comfortable there, unless you stand up for a blowjob.

I'll update the list with some more "tourist" and "local" places soon.
