I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, but I'm one US hobbyist who is finding the Windsor ladies' tradition of coming onto the Michigan pages with their "Come over here, its legal" campaign to be just a little cliched and self-serving.

Windsor is a great option. I used to hobby their often in the pre-9-11 era, when there was a wider option of ladies and the US dollar went further. Back then however, I was a single guy with more disposable income and no passport was required to come across.

What the Windsor ladies need to realize about American hobbyists before they make this push:

1) With the US dollar at par or often lagging the Canadian dollar, Windsor is not the deal it was several years ago.

2) A Windsor trip takes time as compared to seeing a girl in your own backyard. You've got to cross the bridge and clear customs both ways, and RENT A ROOM before the lady can show up, as Incall is prohibited. My point?

3) The Passport/ Passport Card/ Enhanced Drivers License problem.

My point? That many American hobbyists with a limited time window are not going to be able to do Windsor on a regular basis, even if they have the passport. Most hobbyist who are sneaking around a wife or a significant other might be able to grab an hour or two here or there, but when you live more than 20 miles from the border or so, the border crossings and securing the room easily adds another 45 minutes minimum- and the clock is ticking.

So- Legality is NOT the only problem hobbyist face when trying to keep their activities off the radar. The time factor is a much bigger one IMO. To come over to the Michigan board and run that line of crap is condescending to Michigan ladies and players alike. I find it to be an insult to my intelligence. To be honest, you aren't the first Windsor girl to do this, but it is becoming so cliche that I had to call the practice out on the forum. My .02 here.

Rusty I respectfully disagree with your conclusion while conceding many of the points leading up to it. To me the legality issue outweighs the inconvienences that you cite and which to me at least are minor. What is 45 minutes to cross the border and get room compared to being arrested? (Most of the time it doesn't take that long in my experience) What is a loss on the exchange of funds compared to having to pay $900 or more to get your car back if the cops seize it? What is the risk of loosing my professional license worth if I got caught in a sting?
Admittedly the probability of getting caught is not great in Michigan but in Canada it is non existent. To me that makes crossing the border very much worth it.

I agree with ddonjj. Also, of course it is self-serving for a Windsor lady to advertise in the Michigan section...or anywhere else. That's what advertising is about. I think it's smart to use any angle possible to attract business.

You're right that the exchange rate and border issues make traveling to Windsor less appealing than it used to be, but I would never, ever play in Michigan, period. Not worth the risk.

#1 you are posting on a windsor board that is probably safer than any Michigan board at this time
#2 I know some of the ladies are giving discounts for US funds
#3 The room rates for decent by the hour places are not that expensive
#4 despite the extra 45 minutes ....the value of crossing the border to play and not be subject to search and seizure is worth it to alot of guys
