Supposedly, this is all being done to flatten the curve and save lives. But does anyone understand how the numbers break down? Follow me here...we are causing all of this damage to the economy in order to "flatten the curve" meaning to keep infections at a rate that the hospitals can keep up with. What is that number? How many people can the hospitals give life saving treatment to? For argument's sake, let's say it is 8000. Does that mean we have to live life as we now are living it for as long as the threat of exceeding 8000 serious infections exists? For how long do we do that? One, two, three months? In that time, perhaps irreversible damage will be done to the economy...and at the end of that time if we relax the isolation conditions, won't the virus still be around and won't we all still be at threat of infections that exceed hospital capacity? If that's the case, we will have ruined the economy for nothing. All of this applies, even if we can increase capacity of our health care system.

It's a tough choice, no doubt, but I'm starting to think that a truly ruined economy will ultimately cause more suffering than the virus.

I am apalled at the lack of urgency by people around me who only care about flattening the curve but not doing so swiftly. The fanaticism towards this pandemic to where people listen to the media's fear mongering by shopping like the world will end tomorrow, building their whole life around the virus, resigned to the fact that there may be no life after it has really pissed me off. Yes, I did hear someone say on the TV news a couple of weeks ago, that half of United States will be infected. At the time I thought it was impossible. This is scarier than I thought. Thousands of small businesses will be permanently closed because of this.

Flattening the curve is our best bet at this point. As we have no vaccine. I feel it only works if we go into complete shut down like NYC or California. As for SPAs no SPA should be open right now. You get the virus by being near a sick person. Or sick person coughing or sneezing on you or touching a surface that has the virus on it the virus can live on surfaces for 2 days at minimum. All your doing in a spa is being directly close to someone touching areas with your naked body. Talk about a breeding ground for this virus. If a girl is sick she could not know for 2 weeks. How many client's has she seen in those two weeks. That could infect hundreds more when you multiply her customers then they go home, a gas station , wal mart etc after a visit.

Also yes if we self isolate then come out and be around everyone again even stores bars and restaurants there could be a spike in infections. They're hoping though by doing a shut down of a few weeks or longer. Those even without symptoms will get sick and will see medical attention which. So now those people are isolated from the rest of us. Which would help slow down the infection rate as if we all keep to ourselves for 2-4 weeks actually keep to ourselves not just pretend to do it. The virus has nowhere to go. It wont completely die off but it would be slowed significantly.

It's not the fact you won't die. The virus passes on so easily to others along with if it overwhelms our health system what about others with health issues like a stroke, heart attack, diabetes they won't get help. This is about trying to not overwhelm the health system. If it's overwhelmed we are fucked if you have any other issues say you get into a car accident or stroke out. You could die because all their treating is corona patients and have no time or space for you.

This is all the more reason why antimalarial drugs should be given to those with the virus. They are said to be effective, but we'll never know if they aren't used. Give it to enough people and we'll soon find out. There is nothing to lose. Too much caution is not productive in a crisis. A reasonably effective solution now is better than a perfect solution in the future.

Once a critical mass of a populace has achieved immunity, either through vaccination or through enough people having already been infected, then the virus peters out because there are not enough people who have no immunity to keep spreading the disease.

What is herd immunity and can it stop the coronavirus?

Once enough people get Covid-19, it will stop spreading on its own. But the costs will be devastating.
