Economic Crisis Affecting Night Clubs And Motels

The economic crisis has hit the "adult" night entertainment as motels and "night clubs" (strip clubs as they are called iN Costa Rica), as demand for the services is down.

The night clubs report lower number of clients who frequent the establishments, evidenced by the large number of "dancers" in the clubs, sitting idle waiting for customers to come in the door.

Night club owners say it has been so for several months now, especially the weekends, when the crowds never form.

Motel owners are also reporting a drop in business.

The situation has an economic impact on the dancers and sex social workers, who for the most part, work in night clubs to maintain their families.

The drop in business is as much as 80% in some night clubs in San Jose.

Julián Monge, a sociologist working of the UNED, told the daily Al Dia, prostitution in San Jose has been affected by the economic crisis, as people have less spending money.

Monge estimates that there are between 3.000 and 8.000 women dedicated to prostitution in the country.

That number does not include women who dedicate themselves to the oldest profession on an occasional basis, mainly when the financial need arises, like having to pay rent or buy groceries.

Good luck. While it is true that the economic situation has lowered the number of guys going, it is probably only affecting the ones who never pay cien anyway. Those guys who drop $100-200/hr without blinking, are probably still going and overpaying. So while the good-looking chicas may see less guys in the HDR, many are probably holding out for ones with deeper pockets who are willing to pay their price. The lesser-looking chicas may be more flexible with pricing since the Big Shots usually go for the over-madeup plastic Colombianas, and not them.

On my newbie trip from which I just returned today, I met at least one DR chica who has a rudimentary understanding of market economics

She told me (paraphrased from the original Spanish): "I used to ask for cien... but these days I am rarely getting it. I have 4 mouths to feed. I'd rather go once or twice for cincuenta and have some money to take home than stand on cien and go home with nothing -- I'm making up the lower price with higher volume".

I suggested she needs to open a chica school.

Boo Hoo Hoo.........These so called "nightclubs" way overcharge for drinks, cover, chicas, etc. Atlantis & Elite are like $600 for the chica....drinks $20 each...cover $20, then you have to fight the like hell for the padded bill they give you with a bunch of stuff you never drank. ie a $600 bottle of PJ.

Good to see them suffer! I wondered how they made it this long. They actually charge more than US strip clubs in major cities. And a place like Tango INdia that is notorious for bill padding. And then they act like they don't understand when you tell them.

On top of that we have to suffer every taxista trying to sell us on taking us there.

I think the business model of many of these strip clubs are based on the Soho, London. Get a few dumb tourists in per day and make a killing.

The members of this site make up hardly 5% of the tourists going to CR so even if we keep away they have the steady flow of first timers brought to them by the taxi drivers.

My first rule of thumb is never ask a taxi driver where to go and never go to a place he recommends.

If you are really ignorant and need info. try the hotel bell boys or even the reception desk. The hotel doorman is suspect as he is likely to be working with the taxi drivers.

It was just a thought. But I agree with you Orange, Tica's that commanded the higher rates were already on the top tier and can pick and choose. They would still be in demand, just would have a smaller pool. Those that are in the bottom and the middle are the one's that need to make some adjustments. Now only if the economics worked for the hotels. "We need to drop our Chica fees to stay competitive."

As expected, my sympathies lie with the vast majority of girls who barely get by. The top earners will do fine even if there is a 50% drop off in the number of sex tourists. But the girls who aren't the elite are hurting. The clip joints can die a painful death and I will applaud, but when a decent looking girl can't get 5 customers a week at $10 (her share) a pop, then it's just sad. Where do they go next if they can't make a living selling their bodies for $10? Calle 6? Calle 8?

I guess it's all positive from a monger's point of view, unless you are cursed with too much empathy.

From the looks of the DR the last time I was there, the bottom tier should be sucking you for ten bucks... There were some who shouldn't be in the business.... And as for the hotties, they will have to come around eventually.

I see one trip wonders, out of the house, for once in a life time fishing trip,
go in th DR or KL not blinking an eye as a little hottie says "dos cien."

I agree with alot that has been said so far but I wanted to add this...the group of guys that say yes whatever price the girl may ask are really a hand full ...as we sit at the D.R. we see them check in ...most of the group we are talking about are staying at the D.R. and they are easy for me to point out so its Ch*ld play for the girls.

The sceen is 4 or 5 guys all in there late 40 or 50's ...have that were here to party look ,cigar in hand and head to the bar for a $8.00 drink and are only looking for the hot ones...they only stay a night before the fishing trip then may return before the flight out ...they are the ones that ruin it for guys like me ...I meet them at the tute table and just get sick when hearing the stories of giving girls 100 to 200 ....yes I grind it out and members have called me out about sticking to my guns ....this will be my second trip in less than 30 days this weekend ....I will not pay more than 50 to any girl in the D.R. or K.L ....yes I miss out on girls I want to do...but I will be dammed to add to what I feel that will ruin the place I love going to...

This is why I have said continuously in the past that ultimately it's up to you what you pay. I've always preached that it shouldn't matter if it's a "buyers" or "sellers" market.

Now many points on this thread are sound and noted. But are we so lazy that we wish they would just "get it"?

In a perfect world none of the chicas would have cien so ingrained in their heads. Wouldn't we love for all DR chicas to be gfe/pse and only charge $50?

The fact is that it's not like that. So guys can mull over why these girls don't "get it". Or they themselves can improve in the ways they negotiate/pay.

Does it sound like I'm being an ass? I hope not, it's really just my response to this type of complaint.

So again, don't let what others do, say, pay, effect you and your negotiations in any capacity. Put some effort in and stay away from the point and phuck method. Granted, this will be much easier once you learn Spanish. (you guys knew it was coming) :wink:
