anyone a member of a the professional aromapists

I am thinking of joining a professional aromatherapy organization. IS anyone a memeber if so which one. I have looked at the A.O.C and some of the others. can anyone give any advice?

Hi. I too would like to join a professional body for aromatherapy and have contacted them. However having only just taken my ITEC exams I was not very pleased to find out they were not good enough and I would have to do more study and more exams to join! I think this is terrible having worked so hard, I also think ITEC should make this clear and offer an advanced course to enable one to join as the private colleges offering the courses charge a terrific amount. Has anyone else any views on this and if you have done the extra study and exams what did it entail and was it worth it?

I'm a member of IFPA and I think it really offers a great deal to us as a profession. It is pro-national regulation, actively encourages research and development of practice and enables you to make lots of contacts through its "local group" scheme. Membership (particularly student membership) is very reasonably priced and insurance cover is also competitive. I had to join them as a requirement of my course but decided to stay with them even when I graduated.

Hi,

I'm a member of the IFA (International Federation of Aromatherapists) - they offer great reasonably priced training for CPD (continual professional development) - and were the first federation for aromatherapists. They have regional groups where therapists can meet up.
Good competitively priced insurance and friendly staff in the office.

You also get the opportunity to help out at exhibitions and self-publicise at those events. All in all I am a most satisfied member.

If you want to 'upgrade' your qualification to IFPA standards then it can be relatively easy to do. ContactIFPA to find the names of schools who offer 'Upgrades'. The schools do vary in what they offer in terms of upgrades to check them all.

I'm with the IFPA. As a student member it is very well priced, I think it is about £40 per year. To gain qualifications to IFPA standards I've had to do some pricey courses, and I don't get paid for the aromatherapy that I do. I'm not a business person! I think the cost or training rules out aromatherapy/maybe other therapies tooas an option for a lot of people, and I think it's quite unfair. I can't afford to even have a treatment myself! I must check out the swaps section ASAP! lol

I pay approximately £80 per year for full membership there is a student rate (I believe) but you need to check it out - speak to the office they will help you. For their details google international federation of aromatherapists.
